Voice of Nature (VoNat), June 4, 2026, joined government institutions, civil society organizations, and community stakeholders across the South-West Region of Cameroon to commemorate World Environment Day 2026 under the theme, “Inspired by Nature for Climate, for Our Future.” Organized by the South West Regional Delegation of the Ministry of Environment, Protection of Nature and Sustainable Development, the event underscored the importance of collective action in tackling climate change through nature-based solutions and environmental stewardship.

The celebration began with a fitness session and a sports walk to promote healthy living while raising public awareness on environmental conservation. Together with government institutions and fellow civil society organizations, VoNat also participated in the planting of 200 trees at the National School of Public Works in Buea. Planting trees in a school environment not only enhances biodiversity, improves air quality, and creates a healthier learning space, but also instills environmental responsibility among students, inspiring the next generation to become champions of climate action. This activity reflected the World Environment Day theme by demonstrating how restoring nature today helps secure a more resilient and sustainable future.
The commemorative activities culminated in a gala night where VoNat joined partner organizations in showcasing its biodiversity conservation, ecosystem restoration, climate action, and environmental education initiatives implemented across four regions of Cameroon. The organization’s exhibition attracted the admiration of the Governor of the South-West Region, Regional Delegates of sectoral ministries, development partners, and fellow environmental organizations, highlighting VoNat’s growing contribution to community-led conservation and sustainable development. The celebration concluded with environmental quizzes and the presentation of awards recognizing outstanding contributions to environmental protection.

This year’s theme strongly resonates with VoNat’s vision of building a greener, healthier, and more climate-resilient future where people and nature thrive together. It reinforces our mission to conserve biodiversity, restore degraded ecosystems, empower communities, and promote sustainable livelihoods through inclusive, community-led action. As climate and biodiversity challenges continue to intensify, VoNat remains steadfast in its commitment to harnessing nature-based solutions, fostering environmental stewardship among young people and local communities, and working collaboratively with government, partners, and citizens to safeguard Cameroon’s natural heritage for present and future generations.
