The traditional leader of Mendakwe (a village in Bamenda I, North West Region of Cameroon), His Royal Majesty, Fon Forchesiri lll and some members of his Traditional Council  have pledged their support for Voice of Nature (VoNat)’s Landscape Restoration and Climate Action programmes in their community. This was done during a courtesy visit to the Mendankwe Fon’s Palace recently by the technical team of VoNat, representative of the North West Regional Delegation of Environment Protection of Nature and Sustainable Development (MINEPDED-NW) and representative of children from the Mendakwe village taking part in the organization landscape restoration and climate action programmes.

The VoNat Landscape Restoration Programme seeks to restore important but degraded landscapes and their ecosystems functions, while improving community livelihoods, while its Climate Action Programme is dedicated to contribute solutions to global climate change challenges in rural, peri-urban and urban areas of Cameroon. The Mendankwe community leaders commended VoNat’s effort at restoring some four important but degraded watersheds in their area, and for mentoring and engaging children from their community in climate actions. “You are welcome to Mendankwe and we hope that this your initiative will go a long way to help us out of water crisis and other environmental challenges in our village. You have our full collaboration and support,” His Royal Majesty, Fon Forchesiri lll, said.

The quarter head of Abumuchwi 1, Mr. Asangbeng Elvis, commended VoNat’s approach of mentoring and engaging kids in restoration and climate actions and promised to mobilize his community to accompany the organization in its Landscape Restoration and Climate Action programmes.

VoNat has a long-term commitment of mentoring and engaging children/youths and their communities in restoring degraded landscapes, conserving endangered species and carrying out climate actions in the Bamenda Highlands. The support of traditional authorities and their local communities is indispensable in the realization of these goals.
