The Executive Director of Voice of Nature (VoNat), Ndimuh B. Shancho, recently participated at the 18th International Society of Ethnobiology (ISE) Congress that brought together over 500 academics, activists, practitioners, and visionaries from over 60 countries.  The 6-day international congress, from May 15 to 20, 2024, took place at Université Cadi Ayyad Marrakech-Morocco, under the theme: Biodiversity & Cultural Landscapes: Decolonial, Indigenous and Local Perspectives.

The ISE Congress juxtaposed biodiversity and cultural landscapes, evoking the intimate relationships of animals, plants and other forms of life that are embedded in environments shaped by people. Besides keynote speeches, the Congress featured interactive and innovative sessions that delved into biodiversity and cultural landscapes as conceptualised and contested by De colonial, indigenous and local practitioners and scholars. The Executive Director of VoNat Co-convened one of the Congress’ session titled: “Unweaving the Fabric of Colonial Conservation: Local Narratives, Indigenous Methods and Plural Perspectives” and also presented on: “Intergenerational Approach to Species Conservation; VoNat’s Experience in Cameroon”.

The VoNat boss, from May 12 to 14, 2024, also participated in a-3-day workshop at the foot of the High Atlas Mountain (Demnate-Marrakech) alongside some 30 Conservation and Community Fellows from different countries of the global South.  Global Diversity Foundation (GDF) organized this workshop.
