Voice of Nature (VoNat) has joined forces with Regenerative Agriculture Hub and Eco-Warriors to promote regenerative agriculture practices in the Mount Cameroon Area. The organization and its partners, from April 22 to 24, 2024, sensitized over 25 households in the Mount Cameroon Area on regenerative agriculture. They also provided hands-on training to some farmers and community children/young adults on liquid fertilizer production.

According to the Species Conservation Programme Coordinator at VoNat, Kihkishiy Delphine, the regenerative agriculture initiative aims to build resilient farm systems, with the hope of limiting the conversion of wildlife habitat into farmlands commonly practiced by adjacent communities to the Mount Cameroon National Park. The Liquid Fertilizer Lead Trainer, Madam Motia Felicia, who is Project Coordinator at Regenerative Agriculture Hub underscored the importance of organic liquid fertilizer in boosting farm yields.

Local farmers noted that the training has come at an opportune moment. “We usually buy artificial fertilizer to boost crop yield but I think this natural fertilizer is very good.  I am going to use the knowledge gained here to produce my own organic manure and increase my agricultural output,” Said Mr. Matthew David, a yam farmer in Bokova village.

Bechem Enow Marion promised to teach her parents, who could not make it for the training. “We have
most of the ingredients used for the production of the organic fertilizer at home. I will teach my parents and we will produce our own organic fertilizer at home. With this, we will not waste money again on chemical fertilizer, which ends up destroying the soil,” she added.

The regenerative agriculture sensitization campaign and organic liquid fertilizer production training were carried out as part of VoNat’s species conservation programme in the Mount Cameroon Area funded by New England Biolabs Foundation.
