A Cameroon-based biodiversity conservation and sustainable development non-profit organization, Voice of Nature (VoNat), has established a 1000-capacity tree nursery in Buea-Cameroon, marking a significant milestone in its urban landscape restoration and climate action.

The tree nursery is located at the Government Primary School Ndongo, Buea. It has indigenous fruit trees including sour sop (Annona muricate), Pawpaw (Carica papaya), mango (Mangifera Indica) and avocado  (Persea americano). There are also ornamental and medicinal/timber species like callistemon  (Callistemon viminalis)  and pygeum (Prunus Africana) and Mahogany (Entandrophragma angolensis).

“We are committed to addressing the pressing issue of deforestation and climate change. This tree nursery will not only provide economic benefits to local communities but also contribute to enhancing urban restoration efforts, mitigating climate change and its impact and providing a  safe haven for other species. We’re committed to creating a greener, healthier, and more sustainable urban environment,” Ful Stenely, VoNat’s Landscape Restoration Programme Coordinator said.

This nursery has been established as part of VoNat’s climate justice initiative funded by Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN). It will provide high-quality seedlings that will be planted for climate impact mitigation and revitalization of deforested public spaces in the Buea municipality, South West Region of Cameroon.
