Voice of Nature (VoNat) has educated over 60 school and community children in Buea about the frogs of the Western Highlands of Cameroon and the urgent need to conserve endangered frog species and their habitats. This was during a workshop organized at Praise Academy Ndongo on April 30, 2025, as part of commemorative activities to mark the 17th edition of Save the Frogs Day.

The workshop featured creative educational activities designed to introduce the young participants to the frogs of the Western Highlands of Cameroon. The youngsters were engaged in a drawing exercise, during which they brought their imaginations of frogs to life through art, followed by an interactive talk on the ecological importance of frogs, the threats they face, and actions needed to protect them.
“This is the first time many of these children are hearing about frog conservation, and some certain frog species in Cameroon. Our goal is to inspire the next generation of frog conservation leaders by building awareness and interest from a young age,” said the team lead, Shey Shanceline.

One of the students, Ngange Favor, said the workshop was a thrilling experience. “We have learned about the different types of frogs. I have mainly learned about the Goliath frog, the Cameroon Reed Frog, and the Lake Oku frog. I will try my best to educate and create awareness to others about the importance of frogs,” she promised.
The education and awareness raising session on the frogs of the Western Highlands of Cameroon aligns with the VoNat’s Endangered Amphibians Conservation Initiative, which aims to deter endangered amphibians depletion in Cameroon, and bring them back from the brink of extinction. By Jabi Katy Chale
