Six students from the University of Buea have joined the Voice of Nature (VoNat) Volunteering and Youth Mentorship Programme in different fields including; Climate Action, Species Conservation, Project Management, Human Resource Management and Communication. The volunteers and interns are participating in this programme have signed up for different durations from 1 to 6 months.
Ful Stanley Kom is a Masters student from the Department of Geography at the University of Buea. He is a young passionate climate activist and is interested in learning about livelihood sustainability, climate advocacy and mangrove restoration. He is interested in gaining professional skills and experience in the domain of climate change and project management. “I intend to gain experience and carve a niche for myself,” Stanley said.
Che Brian who is a final year student in the Department of Environmental Science, passionate about species conservation and environmental protection. He has joined the VoNat Volunteering and Youth Mentorship Programme to gain new skills and experience in this domain.
Kang Brita Ebude is an undergraduate student in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Buea. She is a young journalist, interested in environmental reporting and corporate communication. She joined the Volunteering & Youth Mentorship Programme to gain experience and skills in environmental reporting and non-profit communications. “I intend to learn how to develop good captivating and impactful environmental stories, gain knowledge on photography, learn how to communicate within and out of the organization, ” Miss Brita said.
Also joining the Communication Department of VoNat is Brillen Ndonga, a first year student from the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication in the University of Buea. Brillen is a young and passionate communication student who has developed interest in environmental reporting and is interested in having a better understanding about environmental issues. ” I heard about VoNat from the Executive Director who came to the University on World Press Freedom Day as a Guest Speaker. His presentation on the role of the press in fighting against environmental crisis stimulated my interest in environmental reporting,” she noted.
Tambi Margrate Ngozi, an MBA student in Human Resource Management joined the VoNat’s Human Resource Department. She joined the organization after seeing its impact in protecting the environment online ” I saw online the activities which the organization is doing and discovered that it is a good place to learn and enhance my skills,” She said. Yong Drusilla, reading an MBA in Project Management at the University of Buea has also joined the Organization to get practical experience on project management. “With all the projects which I see the organization carrying out, I intend to learn how projects are executed in field and gain expertise in projects management,” she said.
The VoNat Volunteering and Youth Mentorship Programme seeks to groom young graduates into refined professionals for the job market, while providing passionate environmental advocates the opportunity to contribute to building a greener, safer and more sustainable planet. It provides the opportunity for everyone both nationally and internationally to use their skills, knowledge, experience and resources to contribute in creating a healthy and safer planet for current and future generations, as well as put smiles on the faces of vulnerable children and women in forest communities in Cameroon.
