Voice of Nature (VoNat) recently took over 60 kids and youth in Buea, South West Cameroon, through a 1-day experiential education session on sustainable waste management. The waste management training took place, March 26, 2025, at Praise Baptist Academy. This session aimed to equip the youngsters with key waste management techniques that they can implement in their homes to contribute to mitigating the perennial waste management challenge in major towns and cities in Cameroon.

The VoNat technical team took the future environmental leaders through a hands-on session on waste sorting for recycling and re-use. The young minds pledged to become waste management ambassadors in their homes and communities.
“I learned how to separate biodegradable from non-biodegradable waste in the practical session, and I am going to practice it at home and also educate my friends and family,” said Yongabi Blessed, a student.
Another kid, Daniel, said “I learned about recycling and how to repurpose containers into other useful items”.
A 2024 UN report suggests that Cameroon produces approximately 6 million tonnes of waste annually, with only 15% of this waste being recovered or properly disposed of. It is hoped that, through initiatives like this, these young minds will be inspired to adopt sustainable waste management practices.
