Kiyam Lamech Wacha, a young graduate with Bachelor of Science degree in Geography and Planning from the University of Buea has joined Voice of Nature (VoNat)’s team of volunteers as Climate Action Advocacy Assistant. Recruited August 3, 2021, the Bamenda-based volunteer comes along with over 3years of experience in carrying out community mobilization and development activities across different institutions in the North West Region of Cameroon including CARITAS-Bamenda, CBC Health Board and the Zhoa Council.  

Volunteer at VoNat drill kids on climate change

Kiyam’s decision to volunteer at VoNat was motivated by his desire to contribute to one of  Organisation’s key objective, which is finding solutions to climate change challenges with community kids and youths “I got interested to volunteer with VoNat because it will give me an opportunity as a youth to participate and also contribute towards mitigating climate change challenges in my community and society,” he said.

 The young graduate is also eager to apply the knowledge acquired in school. “The volunteer opportunity is actually a platform for me to apply the knowledge gained in school, while expanding my professional network,” Mr. Kiyam stated.

An orientation session was held with this new volunteers over the weekend, during which he was enlightened on the mission, vision, objectives, programmes and core values of the organizations. The orientation session also served as an opportunity for the youngsters to abreast himself with his terms of reference.

Mr. Kiyam Lamech is going to be very instrumental in the implementation of the Ecokids programme in Bamenda. The Ecokids programme is a climate action advocacy programme dedicated to boosting the appetite of some 120 children and youths in climate change mitigation/adaptation measures and species conservation in the Mount Cameroon Area and the Bamenda Highlands, implemented by Meg Wah (My Earth) and Voice of Nature (VoNat) with funding from Earth Rising Foundation.
