Two students from the University of Buea have joined Voice of Nature (VoNat) under its Volunteering and Youth Mentorship Programme, marking a new step in their academic and professional journeys in conservation and environmental advocacy. The interns, Ngala Eugene, an undergraduate student in Journalism and Mass Communication, and Njumbe Frankline, a Master’s student in Natural Resources and Environmental Management, will be engaged for a period of 1 to 3 months, gaining hands-on experience in environmental communication, species conservation, and landscape restoration, among other areas.
Ngala Eugene is excited to sharpen his skills in environmental reporting. “Before the end of my internship, I hope to learn a lot about environmental reporting and other aspects of environmental communication,” Eugene said. “I chose VoNat because I have been following their programs online. They have a strong record in environmental reporting, which inspired me,” he added.
Njumbe Frankline brings with him a strong desire to deepen his practical knowledge in wildlife protection and community-based conservation approach.
“I chose Voice of Nature (VoNat) because of its strong commitment to wildlife conservation and its community-driven approach,” Frankline said. He added that “I hope to gain hands-on experience in animal monitoring techniques and learn how to conduct scoping for conservation projects. I am deeply passionate about preserving biodiversity for future generations.”

VoNat’s Volunteering and Youth Mentorship Programme is designed to equip students and young graduates with practical, job-ready skills while empowering them to make meaningful contributions to environmental protection and sustainability.
“We are proud to support young leaders like Eugene and Frankline Through this programme, we aim to nurture the next generation of environmental stewards who will champion conservation in their communities and beyond,” said Ndimuh Bertrand Shancho, Executive Director of VoNat.
As these students begin their journey with VoNat, they join a growing network of youth determined to build a greener, safer, and more sustainable planet for all.
