A group of kids and youths taking part in the Voice of Nature (VoNat) and Meg Wah (My Earth)’s EcoKids Programme in Douala-Cameroon, were recently engaged in a community-wide education & sensitization to help communities better adapt their lives and livelihoods to climate change and its impacts. Using a talk-show and micro-radio programme, the youngsters raised fresh consciousness on floods management, waste management, mangroves conservation and climate smart agriculture amongst others.

Speaking on Home TV in Douala and Radio Bonaberi, recently,  cautioned the Douala denizens against land reclamation and construction on wetlands that have often led to deadly floods. They also highlighted some preventive measures that those in flood prone-areas should take during heavy rains to mitigate the effects of flooding on their lives and livelihoods.

The youngsters used the TV and Radio programmes to talk about key actions they are carrying out within the framework of the EcoKids programme.  “We are also engaged in storytelling about climate change in the mangrove communities, climate impact information gathering in Douala, trees planting in public spaces, donation of trash cans and plastic cages to promote sustainable waster management, and climate smart vegetable gardening amongst others,” the EcoKids explained.

This was carried out as part of an outreach and education micro-project developed by the children under the mentorship of VoNat and Meg Wah within the framework of the EcoKids Programme funded by Earth Rising Foundation.
